FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’re a unisex brand and all treatments are available to you regardless of gender. We’ve noticed that most of our male clients book in for a classical manicure or classical pedicure without paint.

We often have couples book a pedicure together.

Cuticle oil is used to moisturize the cuticle, skin and nail area and we at Dan Nails & Beauty love it! It can protect the cuticle and nail against damage and improve the health and appearance of the cuticles and nails.

Nail plates can get very dehydrated easily, but cuticle oil application is such an easy way to avoid this, leaving beautiful nails! Cuticle oil should not be used as a first-line of defence against dryness, but rather to fix extremely dry, cracked nails. It’s usually of natural, rapidly absorbing vegetable oils; cuticle oil can also contains vitamins.

Gel polish is very difficult to remove with standard nail polish remover and if you peel it off it can damage your nails so it is always advisable to book in for professional take off at Dan Nails & Beauty.

This involves gentle hand filing, an acetone soak for a few minutes. Your Technician will then use tools to remove the last of the polish and neaten up your nails ready to go!

When you have a classical manicure at Dan Nails & Beauty, your technician will leave your polish to dry for about 5 minutes before applying a quick-dry spray, which accelerates the drying process. They will then check to see if your manicure still needs drying – it is you’ll have to sit back just a little longer to avoid smudges!

In total, around 10-15 minutes after the last topcoat, your manicure should be touch dry and good to go. Just try to avoid knocking it (easily done by rummaging in your bag!) for about an hour until the polish has fully cured through all the coats.

Never! Our Acrylic powders are EMA (Ethyl Methacrylate) and Dan Nails & Beauty is rigorously inspected by the local authority annually to ensure we uphold this.

Salons that offer acrylic extensions at cheap prices are often using MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) which is used in the dental industry. MMA bonds to your nails too harshly, leading to some really bad damage to your natural nail – as a chemical MMA was never designed to come into contact with skin and nails – it is too hard to be used for acrylic extensions and can tear the nail from the nail bed easily!

If you have your extensions professionally applied and professionally maintained and removed by qualified nail technicians, there should only be minimal damage to your nail plate. It goes without saying that if you pick at your nails or pull them off yourself, the nail will be badly damaged.

Professional technicians like those at Dan Nails & Beauty will use the correct, branded, high quality products to apply and remove your nail extensions.

Dan Nails & Beauty advises a number of ways on how to care for your manicured nails.

To keep a manicure lasting to its full potential avoid getting your nails wet for too long (constant soaking in hot baths or not wearing rubber gloves when washing the dishes) and also avoid coming into contact for prolonged periods with chemicals like those in sunscreen, perfumed products and insect repellent.

Get someone else to do the DIY or tough chores that might cause your manicure to lift, and apply cuticle oil morning and night if you can. This will keep your nails super healthy throughout the duration of your manicure and it will help keep the polish intact.

Finally, don’t pick at your manicure under any circumstances. Instead Book in for a Nail repair if one or nails have damaged otherwise treat yourself to another treatment.

Cuticles are the small overgrowth of dead skin at the bottom of your nail plate. They join the living tissue to your nail, and protect you from any contaminants getting under your skin.

However, overgrown cuticles are no good! Cuticles should be kept pushed back and tidy to keep your nails looking healthy- short, pushed back cuticles also help you get neat, long lasting polish application and help your nails look longer and more elegant. With standard polish, manicures and pedicures, we advise booking a full manicure and pedicure as oppose to our express treatments. With gel polish, the shellac manicure treatment will do the trick!

Standard nail polish usually lasts up to 5 days and is a great choice for temporary or short one off occasions. If that’s what you’re looking for then we recommend booking a classical manicure. It does take a fair few minutes to dry fully to avoid smudges on your manicure. If that’s too short of period for you then we recommend booking a shellac (gel) manicure at Dan Nails & Beauty, which is designed to last up to two weeks!

With cuticle work and full nail preparation, a gel or shellac manicure should last about 2 weeks with proper application and aftercare. At Dan Nails & Beauty we offer an express version of a gel manicure, but if you want that complete 2 week guarantee then we advise going for the full gel (shellac) manicure.

Nails often turn yellowish when a strong, pigmented polish is applied. To prevent pigmentation, make sure you put base coat on prior to applying the coloured polish so it acts as a barrier.Or simply choose for a less potent colour. We have over 100 colours and designs to choose from.

If the natural nail is pulling away from the nail bed then it will possible that the nail fungus will show underneath. The right application and maintenance of the nail extension will help prevent a nail fungus, as well as using products such as a nail antiseptic or fungal nail treatment.

This is when either acrylic or gel is applied over the natural nail without the need of a nail extension. Ideal for those who want just some slight length and thicker nails.

The standard style of a French manicure is when the fingernails are painted pale pink with a white band at the tip. At Dan Nails & Beauty you can choose to have the nail bed clear with any colour tip.

Yes, it’s fine to re-apply acrylics straight away as natural nails are made up of keratin (protein) so nails don’t breathe. If you have ripped your acrylics off causing the natural nail to thin however, then you might want to wait to harden the nails back up, as the acrylics will just add more stress on top of damaged nails. For best results, Dan Nails & Beauty recommends add cuticle oil every night to nourish and promote healthy nail growth.

This can happen for many reasons. Acrylics take 24 – 48 hours to fully cure, and a slight knock during that time can cause the acrylics to lift.

Other reasons for lifting include: diseased nail plate, not maintaining regular infills, nicotine, fruit acids such as lemons, oranges, and other citrus fruits, harsh detergents, using a acetone based nail polish remover, medication, stress, misuse of nails, occupation, picking and biting, excessive use of oils and creams, or even just wearing the nail too long can cause lifting.

Different treatments will vary in different times. Please have a look at our scheduling page here for a full list of treatments, prices and duration of the treatment.

To organise your party at Dan Nails & Beauty we suggest you send an email to dannailsandbeauty@gmail.com listing the date you would like to book your party, the number of participants and every treatment for each individual.

Dan Nails & Beauty knows that this depends on your lifestyle and preference. The faster your nails grow and the more abuse they withstand, the more often you’ll need professional maintenance in our nail salon. If you prefer absolutely perfect polish and medium to long nails, you’ll need a professional manicure once a week. If you favour shorter nails for a more active lifestyle, you may need a professional manicure only every two weeks. On the whole, we’d recommend on average every two weeks – maximum three weeks!

To get the most out of your manicure we always recommend to wear rubber gloves when doing the dishes and not to use your nails as tools in your everyday life.We also recommend moisturizing your hands with special focus on your fingernails and cuticle area. Furthermore, we’d advise a healthy diet and food high in vitamin B (Biotin), for example, bananas and strawberries.

Finally, we’d recommend visiting a nail salon near you every 2-3 weeks for good nail maintenance. So book now if it’s coming up to two weeks since your last visit at Dan Nails & Beauty.

A pedicure is a cosmetic treatment of the feet and toenails, analogous to a manicure. Pedicures are done for cosmetic, therapeutic purposes. They are popular throughout the world and especially among women but has recently grown in popularity by men. Pedicures include care not only for the toenails; dead skin cells are scrubbed off the bottom of the feet using a rough stone. Your foot will then be treated to granular exfoliation, moisturizing, and a massage

At Dan Nails & Beauty, we’ve found that a pedicure is commonly booked amongst couples and friends.

A classical manicure consists of a warm hand soak, filing and shaping the free edge of the nails, pushing and clipping (with a cuticle pusher and cuticle nippers) and application of fingernail polish. The more advanced treatments will take longer and vary in treatment methodology and price.

Plastic tips are placed on your natural nails and cut and filed to your desired length and shape before applying acrylic or gel.Nail Sculptures differ on the other hand. Nail forms are placed at the tip of your nails and product is applied according to the desired length. While the product is drying, the nails will be pinched on the sides to give it more of a natural look.

After the product has completely dried the nail form will be removed leaving you with a beautiful and natural nail shape. This system leaves you with a more durable set of nails compared to the tip system. However, this does take slightly longer and costs a few pounds more.!

The Express nails treatment at Dan Nails & Beauty is the perfect treatment on the go. It includes cutting and shaping your natural nails, buffing the nail bed and applying a colour of your choice. For Acrylic nails the strong resin made of a powder and a liquid mixed together. It’s very hard wearing and we recommend it to people that bite their nails or use their hands a lot.

For Gel Powder Nails the resin is a lot like acrylic and the composition is very similar. However, the finish is more clear compared to acrylic nails and its slight better quality. We’d recommend this to anyone going for a pale/nude colour on their manicured nails.

UV Gel nails on the other hand is a hard gel that will allow you to make your nails longer without damaging your nail bed too much. It’s more flexible than acrylic and gel powder and not as hard wearing but it feels lighter on your hands. This needs to be cured by UV light, hence the name.

Definitely! – If a booking slot is available. You just need to go on our website www.dannails.co.uk to find all the available slots for the day. Every treatment needs to be booked separately so make sure to select the same time with different technicians. You can make the booking online here but if you’re still unsure then in such a scenario it might be better to call the salon on 01332 669 198.

For those who bite their nails we strongly recommend to have a full set of acrylic done.

Acrylic is a very strong product that will prevent you from biting through your set of nails allowing your natural nail plate to grow.

It is also quite hard wearing for everyday life. You can also opt for Shellac/gel nails. Gel polish lasts longer than regular varnish and will keep your hands looking fabulous which will discourage you from biting and ruining those pretty nails.salon on 01332 669 198.

A gel manicure and a Shellac manicure are essentially the same thing: long-lasting polishes cured under UV lamps. The difference is that “gel nails” or “gel manicure” is the generic term for any nails done under a UV lamp which includes shellac, whilst Shellac itself a brand of gel polish by the company Creative Nail Design (CND). It’s comparable to “Henry Hoover” which was so popular that people often call a vacuum cleaner a “Hoover”.
